Responsible Sourcing in Action

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Every sheet of paper Sylvamo makes begins in a forest. Because its entire business depends on the long-term health of those forests, responsible fiber sourcing is foundational.

At a global level, Sylvamo sets clear expectations for how wood fiber is sourced through its Global Fiber Procurement Policy and supporting due diligence systems. These standards help ensure fiber is traceable, legally harvested and responsibly managed. But policies alone do not protect forests.

That work happens on the ground, through experienced teams and trusted partnerships. Meet Comptoir des Bois de Brive (CBB).

A Local Expert with a Critical Role

Sylvamo does not own forests in Europe. Instead, it relies on a Sylvamo-owned company, CBB, to manage all aspects of wood sourcing for its Saillat, France, mill. Sourced solely in France, CBB supplies over one million tons of wood fiber annually to the mill, ensuring a responsibly sourced and reliable fiber supply.

However, CBB is much more than a wood buyer. It is a forestry and fiber-sourcing expert with regional knowledge, long-standing relationships and operational capabilities that span the entire supply chain. From harvesting and purchasing fiber to logistics and delivery, CBB helps ensure fiber meets certification and traceability requirements.

With a network of roughly 145 log suppliers, most of its fiber comes from small, family-owned forests across around 4,000 harvest sites each year, representing more than 3,000 landowners. Typical harvests average around 270 tons, and the majority of fiber is sourced within about 80 miles of the Saillat mill. This approach reinforces CBB's capability, while also supporting local communities and limiting transportation impacts.

CBB's role goes beyond sourcing volume though. Through close collaboration with its key stakeholders, the company helps promote forest practices that balance productivity with long-term stewardship, biodiversity protection and regeneration.

Traceability and Conservation on the Ground

That partnership model is reinforced by certification and traceability systems that meet both European regulatory expectations and Sylvamo's enterprise requirements.

To support those, CBB uses technology that captures geolocation and operational data for each harvest site. This system provides detailed visibility from forest to mill, allowing Sylvamo the ability to meet strict traceability requirements of evolving regulations and leading certification frameworks.

CBB has also helped advance forest conservation in France. In fact, the company co-pioneered the development and application of Forest Stewardship Council's (FSC) Ecosystem Services program, which creates economic incentives for landowners to protect and conserve areas of high conservation value while keeping forests productive and working.

Together, Sylvamo and CBB show what responsible sourcing looks like in practice: local expertise, clear expectations and a shared commitment to keeping forests healthy, productive and resilient for generations to come.
