Piedmont Walton opens expanded emergency department

Monroe, Ga. (October 14, 2026) - Piedmont Walton Hospital today opened its newly expanded Emergency Department, completing a $15 million project designed to meet the growing healthcare needs of Walton County and surrounding communities. The expansion more than doubles the hospital's emergency care capacity and enhances access to critical services at the hospital's Level III Trauma Center.

"This expansion is a direct response to the growing needs of our community," said Blake Watts, chief executive officer of Piedmont Walton Hospital. "Opening these new spaces allows us to care for more patients, improve the emergency care experience and ensure our team has the resources needed to deliver lifesaving care when every second counts."

Construction on the expansion began in January 2026 and included 16 exam rooms, two trauma rooms and four fast-track rooms. The space was designed to support increased patient volumes, improve patient flow, reduce wait times, and expand access to emergency services for residents throughout Walton County and neighboring communities.

As Walton County's designated Level III Trauma Center, Piedmont Walton provides around-the-clock emergency care for a wide range of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. The expanded department strengthens the hospital's ability to deliver high-quality care closer to home as the region continues to grow.

"This is a transformational investment in the health of our community," Watts said. "We are proud to open a space that will serve our patients for years to come."
