Officers Recovered Hundreds of Fraudulent Checks After a Traffic Stop

At about 5:50 PM, on Thursday, October 17, 2024, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested O'Keif Mark, 22, of Waltham, for receiving stolen property.

Officers were on Patrol in the area of Warren Street when they conducted an inquiry of a vehicle that was wanted for an incident in Brookline. Officers immediately activated their cruiser's emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.

Officers attempted to make contact with the operator of the vehicle who refused to roll down his window and locked all the doors. Officers requested multiple times for the operator to roll down his window which he finally complied.

After further investigation, officers requested the operator to exit the vehicle, which he refused. Officers requested the operator exit the vehicle, which he complied and tried to walk away from the scene. Officers attempted to stop the suspect and a struggle ensued. Officers were able to place the suspect into handcuffs and began to conduct a pat frisk of the vehicle.

Officers recovered three envelopes that had numerous checks with different names on them. Officers now began to search the vehicle and recovered a Glock style BB gun. Officers also recovered HEET water remover and three bottles of brake fluid which is used to wash ink off of checks. Officers seized approximately 236 fraudulent checks which were valued at $389,808.

Mark was placed under arrest and charged with Receiving Stolen Property over $1,200, and Threats to Commit a Crime. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
