Recycled Materials Association Celebrates Manufacturing Day

Recycled Materials Industry is the Foundation of American Innovation and Economic Strength

(WASHINGTON, D.C. - October 3, 2025) - The Recycled Materials Association (ReMA) today proudly joins manufacturers nationwide in celebrating National Manufacturing Day (MFG Day), held annually on the first Friday in October. This year's theme, "Inspiring the Future Workforce," underscores the critical role the recycled materials industry plays in powering American manufacturing and offering dynamic career pathways.

"Manufacturing Day is the perfect opportunity to recognize the men and women who keep America's supply chain resilient and sustainable," said ReMA President Robin Wiener. "Recycled materials are the indispensable foundation of the U.S. manufacturing supply chain directly fueling the production of everything from critical infrastructure to everyday consumer goods. We are a high-tech, essential industry that offers rewarding careers for problem-solvers, innovators, and changemakers."

Recycled Materials: Fueling the American Economy

The recycled materials sector is vital to the nation's economic and infrastructural strength.

Key facts highlighting the industry's manufacturing impact include:

  • Infrastructure: An estimated 75% of a bridge is made with recycled materials.
  • Automotive: Over two-thirds of a new car is manufactured using recycled materials.
  • Sustainability Success: Nearly 75% of all aluminum ever produced is still in use today, demonstrating the circular nature of the industry.

Inspiring the Next Generation

In alignment with the MFG Day theme, ReMA is focused on bridging the skills gap and promoting careers that make a difference. The industry offers opportunities across diverse fields, including technology, engineering, sustainability, logistics, and data analytics.

Through programs like ReMA's Sustainability Pathways Program, the association is actively opening doors for students and job seekers, including those looking for second chances, to join the recycled materials workforce and contribute to a more sustainable future.

ReMA encourages its members and the public to use this Manufacturing Day to explore the vast career opportunities available and celebrate the essential work of the recycled materials workforce.
