Indiana NRCS Announces Funding Available to Help Protect and Restore Sensitive Wetlands

State Conservationist Damarys Mortenson announced today that USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Indiana is making funds available to help landowners and partners protect and restore wetlands across Indiana. The funding is provided through the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program - Wetland Reserve Easements (ACEP-WRE), created to protect critical water resources and wildlife habitat. While applications can be submitted year-round, applications must be received by May 22 to be considered during the second funding period. Applications received after May 22 will be considered during the next funding period.

ACEP-WRE is a voluntary NRCS program helping landowners protect, restore and enhance degraded wetlands. It provides financial incentives for permanent or 30-year easements which help improve water quality, wildlife habitat and flood control while retaining private ownership. Eligible lands include farmed/converted wetlands, riparian areas and associated agricultural land that can be successfully restored. Landowners must have owned the land for at least 24 months.

ACEP applications may be submitted to your local NRCS office at any time, however applications for the second round of funding must be submitted on or before May 22.
