"You get to create some traditions on this track and field," Grant said, "traditions that will live on and on, long after you're gone and graduated and giving money back to the University."
A year and a half later, the campus community has taken Grant's words to heart. Since its opening in fall 2024, the Grant Family Track and Field has become a center of campus life and the setting for some new traditions-like the Community Track Walk hosted by President Lawrence P. Ward at the start of each fall semester.
Of course, the track is also the home of UHart's track and field and cross-country teams-the second annual Rage in the Cage Invitational will be held there on April 3-as well as recreation and club sports.
And, thanks to generous support from alumni, parents, and friends of the University, lighting will soon be installed around the facility so it can be used at night.
The complex features a 400-meter, eight-lane "full pour" track surrounding a new field tailored to field hockey, as well as an adjacent throwing area. Built to NCAA standards, the new facilities create an opportunity for the University to serve as a potential host for NCAA regional and national tournaments.
The Grant Family Track and Field is one of many improvements the University has made to its campus in recent years. Like the outdoor sports and athletics complex that is slated to open in fall 2026, the track reflects UHart's commitment to expanding access to recreational and wellness resources for the entire community.
