A Kinder Egg surprise to the market

Published

The company has 50 years of experience delivering software, insight and services to industries critical to society and is a heavy contributor to the energy transition and digitalisation of critical infrastructure.

All eyes were on Volue at this year's E-world energy & water 2026. It was there they announced a major step forward in production forecasting: AI-weather-driven rapid updates, delivering up to 24 forecast updates per day.

"I have been waiting with enthusiasm for this product in our portfolio as I have over years meant that weather forecast needs to improve its performance to reduce the large risk weather uncertainty give all players in this power market, as we are entering rapid growth in weather dependent production and consumption all over Europe."

Tor Reier Lilleholt, Head of Analysis at Volue.

As power markets become increasingly weather-dependent and volatile, more frequent and adaptive forecasts are becoming essential for managing short-term price risk and operational decisions.

The benefits of a continuous signal
Traditional NWP models such as ECMWF and GFS typically update four times per day. Many traders still rely on forecast inputs built on weather data that can be 6-12 hours old.

By replacing traditional numerical weather models with AI and machine learning, these next-generation forecasts allow market participants to react faster to changing conditions.

"This product should support our customers with fresh observation, more rapid updates and with higher quality. That's why I call it a Kinder Egg Surprise to the market," says Lilleholt. "Who wouldn't benefit from that?"
