[Link]June is the Month of Creative Action!
This month, make a difference and support the creative sector with local actions that have a big impact.
As federal funding changes and disruptionsaffect so many aspects of our lives and communities in Vermont, now is the time to take action to support the creative sector.
We'll use the power of the arts to do what we do best: bring people together and build a better future for everyone. Let's take creative action!
Here's what you can do in your community this week to make a difference:
-
Participate in creativity: make art, compose music, or audition for a local play.Participating in the arts nurtures creativity, reduces stress, strengthens self-expression, and builds empathy-while also connecting you to others, enriching your perspective, and contributing to a vibrant, culturally engaged community.
-
Volunteer at your local library or join the library's Friends' Group.Libraries are a public good-free, inclusive, and open to all. Supporting them helps ensure they stay that way. Find your local library here.
-
Leave a positive review after a visit to a cultural institution or event.Sharing a positive review helps to attract new visitors, boosts the organization's visibility and credibility, and shows appreciation for the artists and staff-directly supporting their mission and long-term sustainability.
-
Attend a school board meeting and speak up for the arts and humanities. Find meeting information on your school district website, attend a meeting, and share a story of the impact that the arts and humanities have had on you or your children in the district. Urge the school board to continue supporting arts and humanities education for all students.
-
Join a town committee. Most towns in Vermont have many volunteer committees that keep local government humming. Look on your town's website to see the town committees (everything from trails committees to arts committees to economic development committees and more), attend the next meeting, and ask how to join.
