NRG sent a letter to President Trump and the U.S. Senate's bipartisan bill sponsors today in support of the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act.

America is entering a period of significant growth, creating an urgent need to build new energy infrastructure while protecting affordability and reliability for customers. This legislation takes meaningful steps to provide greater permitting certainty, accelerate investment in new generation and infrastructure, and remove barriers that prevent valuable energy resources from competing in our markets.

Importantly, the legislation recognizes that meeting growing demand requires both building new infrastructure and making better use of the energy system we already have. Expanding market access for resources such as demand response, distributed generation and storage can add capacity and flexibility while helping keep costs down for customers.

The legislation also advances an important principle as large new loads connect to the grid: growth should pay for growth. Requiring covered data center loads to bear the incremental transmission costs they create helps ensure that existing customers are not asked to subsidize new demand.

NRG believes competitive markets, private investment, customer choice and innovation are essential to meeting America's growing energy needs. We applaud the bipartisan leadership behind this important legislation and look forward to working with the Administration and Congress to advance policies that enable responsible growth while delivering reliable, affordable energy for customers.
