Indigenous Documentary Series to Be Screened on Campus
The final episode of the series "People of the West" will be screened on campus Sept. 22.

The final episode of a landmark documentary series that reexamines California's history through Indigenous perspectives will be screened at the University Student Union on Sept. 22.
The 10th and last episode of "People of the West" will be shown in the USU ballroom from 6-8 p.m. The event is free and open to all members of the campus community.
The episode is titled "The Next Generation," and the website description reads: "From the Channel Islands to the Coachella Valley, California's Native nations reclaim their role as caretakers of land and sea."
"People of the West" is a 10-part series that draws on oral histories, archival materials, Native scholars, cultural practitioners and cinematic storytelling to give a fuller picture of California's past, present and future. It's produced by Pechanga Studios, the creative arm of Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula.
Cal State San Marcos is well represented in the series. Two American Indian studies faculty members (Nicole Myers-Lim and Stan Rodriguez) are featured on camera, as are two current or former students: Kiara Love Flores and Aiden Valverde. CSUSM alumna Laila Basquez is a producer for the series.
