The Initial Press Release on Workboat “CHUNG CHENG No. 7” Capsizing and Man Overboard During Towing Operation of Fishing Vessel “MICRONESIA No. 102 “ in Kaohsiung Port

On May 23, 2025, at 1108 hours, two domestic workboats, 'CHUNG CHENG No. 7' and 'CHUNG CHENG No. 3', were assisting the foreign fishing vessel 'MICRONESIA No. 102' with its unberthing operation outside the Jong Shyn Shipbuilding in Kaohsiung Port. During the operation, 'CHUNG CHENG No. 7' capsized, resulting in the death of its captain who fell overboard. The workboat subsequently experienced water ingress. No oil pollution occurred in this occurrence.

The Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB) classified the event as a major marine occurrence per the Transportation Occurrence Investigation Act and referenced the Casualty Investigation Code of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The Investigator-In-Charge was assigned, and an investigation team was launched to conduct the investigation.
