BECU wants to help you Spring clean and for a good cause! Bag up those documents you have been meaning to shred as well as old TV's, desktop computers, laptops and cell phones and bring them to the BECU Shred Event, Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 800 Lincoln St. in Bellingham.
While there, you also can donate nonperishable food items or give a monetary donation to WWU's WHOLE pantry! The staff at WHOLE appreciate BECU supporting WHOLE's efforts to reduce food insecurity for Western students.
With recent basic needs survey data available, basic needs insecurities among college students continue to be a major challenge. The Student Experience Survey administered in November 2024 saw rates of student food insecurity rise 14% among Washington college students being reported at 43.8%. Students surveyed at Western reported a food insecurity rate of 45.4%. Groups seeing the most significant basic need insecurities are first generation students, our former foster-care student population, black/African American students, students with disabilities and low-income students.
