On March 3, 2026 the first working visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Ghana began in the history of bilateral relations.
On the first day of the program, Maxim Ryzhenkov met with President of the Republic of Ghana John Dramani Mahama.
The Foreign Minister conveyed from President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to the President of Ghana congratulations on the upcoming Independence Day of Ghana, as well as a personal invitation to visit Minsk.
John Dramani Mahama gratefully accepted the invitation and offered to coordinate specific dates of the visit through diplomatic channels. The President of Ghana conveyed good wishes in return to the Belarusian leader and warmly recalled his trip to Belarus in 2024 unofficially.
The main focus of the talks was on the prospects for bilateral cooperation. The President of Ghana highlighted the agricultural sector, proposing to work out a five-year program of cooperation in the agricultural sector. The President also said that the first large order of Belarusian equipment is expected this year.
John Dramani Mahama separately noted that a Belarusian tractor, characterized by high reliability, is still successfully operating on his personal farm.
The parties agreed to resume regular political dialogue: to hold consultations between the foreign ministries and a meeting of the joint commission on trade and economic cooperation. The Ghanaian side also expressed interest in developing cooperation in the field of combating terrorism.
Maxim Ryzhenkov confirmed Belarus' readiness to expand cooperation in the fields of education, military-technical cooperation and food security, noting that Ghana is one of our country's priority partners on the African continent.
Summing up the meeting, the President of Ghana assured that he would send a delegation to Minsk to study in detail the areas of cooperation, and reiterated his intention to pay an official visit to Belarus, which would give a powerful impetus to the development of bilateral relations.
