NOFD Responds to Two-Alarm Fire in the French Quarter

On Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 2:17 p.m., New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) Fire Operations personnel were dispatched to a reported fire in the 1200 block of Chartres St in the French Quarter. The first NOFD company arrived at 1226 Chartres St., an unoccupied two-story, multi-unit apartment building, at 2:22 p.m. Familiarity with this building and having performed fire suppression operations previously at this address, factored into the immediate request for a second alarm at 2:24 p.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters noticed that heavy smoke and flames on the building's second floor had already breached the roof of the structure. They were still able to keep the fire contained to the building of origin. Eighteen NOFD units, supported by forty-seven NOFD Fire Operations personnel were used to bring this incident under control at 3:08 p.m. There were no injuries reported, and the cause of this incident is currently being investigated.
