On June 11, 2026, a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan led by Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov paid a visit to Algiers, the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria.
During the visit, talks were held in narrow and expanded formats with Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs of Algeria.
The parties discussed ways to intensify political dialogue, expand trade, economic and investment cooperation, and strengthen cultural and humanitarian ties between Uzbekistan and Algeria. They also exchanged views on cooperation within international organizations, including the Non-Aligned Movement and the United Nations, as well as on regional and international developments.
Following the negotiations, important documents aimed at further strengthening bilateral cooperation were signed, including:
- Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Government of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria on the mutual exemption of holders of diplomatic passports from visa requirements;
- Memorandum of Understanding between the Diplomatic Academy under the University of World Economy and Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and the Institute of Diplomacy and International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Algeria.
As part of the visit, the Uzbek delegation headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs was received by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria. During the meeting, the greetings and best wishes of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan were conveyed, and the parties discussed ways to elevate bilateral relations to a new level, including expanding trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
Bakhtiyor Saidov also met with Kamel Rezig, Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion of Algeria. The parties discussed increasing trade turnover, developing new logistics corridors, implementing joint investment projects and expanding industrial cooperation. Proposals were put forward to establish an Intergovernmental Joint Commission and a Business Council, as well as to organize a "Made in Uzbekistan" exhibition in Algiers.
During a meeting with Murad Hanifi, Minister of Mining of Algeria, prospects for cooperation in the field of mineral resources were discussed. The parties reviewed opportunities for joint geological exploration, development of promising mineral deposits, establishment of joint ventures, deep processing of mineral resources and production of high value-added products.
