Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai to celebrate BIE Day on 12 October

Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai will honour the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) on Sunday, 12 October.

Taking place on the penultimate day of the Expo, BIE Day pays tribute to the intergovernmental organisation created in 1928 to lead, promote and foster Expos, and celebrates the Expo's hosts and international participants.

BIE Day is an opportunity to commemorate the achievements of Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai, and to mark the continuity of Expos since 1851. A delegation of BIE representatives and officials, including the President of the General Assembly Alain Berger and the Secretary General Dimitri S. Kerkentzes, will represent the BIE and its 184 Member States during the course of the day's activities.

The commemoration of BIE Day will begin with a dedicated ceremony in Expo Hall - Shining Hat at 11.00am, which will include a flag-raising ceremony, the anthems of Japan and the BIE, and speeches by Japanese and BIE dignitaries. The ceremony will also feature vibrant cultural performances reflecting the culture of Japan as well as future Expo host countries.

Later in the day, at 5.00pm, a prize-giving ceremony will be held for the Expo 2025 Official Participant Awards. These awards celebrate the exceptional and creative international participation in the Expo, with awards based on architecture and landscape, exhibition design, theme development and sustainability. The Ceremony will also see the attribution of the BIE-Cosmos Prize, and BIE Medals to individuals and organisations that have contributed to the success of the Expo.

The announcement of all awards can be followed on the BIE's X and Instagram accounts, and the ceremony will be live-streamed online, via the website of the BIE and official channels of Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai.
