Pasadena Water and Power Launches Annual Utility Pole Inspection Program

PASADENA, Calif.- Pasadena Water and Power (PWP), effective this week, will begin its annual utility pole inspection program with work continuing through June 30. Inspections will be conducted by PWP's authorized contractor, Osmose Utility Services Inc. Most inspections will take place in zip codes 91103, 91104, 91105, and 91107.

To complete required inspections, Osmose crews may need to access private property to reach utility poles located along back property lines. All Osmose employees will wear company uniforms, drive clearly marked company vehicles, carry official identification, and will knock on the door before entering private property.

As part of the annual program, PWP's wooden utility poles are inspected for signs of wear, insect activity, and damage, including impacts from motor vehicles. Each pole undergoes a visual assessment and an internal soundness check. Crews will identify compromised poles and perform on-site repairs when possible. Some poles may require replacement based on inspection findings. Poles are also photographed, and their condition is documented.

This proactive inspection program is essential to maintaining system reliability, enhancing public safety, reducing long-term operating costs, and minimizing unexpected power outages.
