On 14 January 2025, the National Productivity Centre of Cambodia (NPCC) and the APO Secretariat launched the Development of Demonstration Companies (DMP) Project on Green Productivity (GP) Application through Environmental Management Systems (EMSs) in the Manufacturing Sector. The online event gathered key stakeholders including NPCC Director and NPO Head for Cambodia Um Serivuth, the APO Secretariat, a Japanese resource person, and four demonstration companies comprising Cambodian Chemical Supply Co., Ltd.; ELIZA HUB MFG Co., Ltd.; K&K Pipe (Cambodia) Co., Ltd.; and Kirirom Food Production Co., Ltd.
The manufacturing sector is vital to Cambodia's economy and has seen steady growth over the last decade. In 2022, it contributed approximately 19% to GDP and provided around one million jobs. However, this rapid growth also underscored the urgent need to balance productivity enhancement with environmental sustainability. As Cambodia progresses with its 2021 Circular Economy Strategy and Action Plan, reshaping the manufacturing sector's future to align with sustainable goals becomes more imperative.
This DMP Project on GP is a six-month initiative that supports companies in applying GP tools and establishing ISO 14001:2015-compliant EMSs to reduce waste, optimize resources, and enhance environmental performance through a combination of practical training and consultation. The launch marks a significant milestone in embedding GP principles within Cambodia's manufacturing sector, fostering a balance between economic growth and environmental protection for sustainable development.
