Environment & Infrastructure publishes workplan

The Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure has published its workplan, setting out what it will deliver over this term, focussing on priorities that directly improve people's everyday lives.

The workplan includes six themes:

• Climate resilience and adaptation - planning for the future by focusing on reducing flood and coastal risk over time in the most appropriate places. Therefore, homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure are better protected and disruption from extreme weather is reduced.
• Strategic infrastructure and long-term planning - supporting better long-term decisions on infrastructure and land use, so investment in the island's future is more coordinated, better informed, and more sustainable.
• Energy transition and security of supply - supporting secure and affordable energy, with clear planning for essential fuel and energy infrastructure and sensible steps toward a lower-carbon future, including our contribution to the Offshore Wind Delivery Board's work on credible delivery routes.
• Sustainable transport and mobility - prioritising safer roads and reliable public transport; helping people get to work, school, and appointments; and over time supporting healthier and more sustainable travel choices.
• Natural environment, land, and marine stewardship - protecting and, where possible, enhancing the landscapes, coastline, and marine environment that shape daily life and the visitor economy, while helping ensure the island's land and natural resources are used in a way that fairly balances environmental, social, and economic needs.
• Regulatory and international compliance - maintaining strong and proportionate standards that protect public health, trade, and the environment, so food, animals, and plants can move safely across borders, while air and water quality remain protected as regulations evolve.

The workplan also provides an update on key capital projects that sit within the Committee's mandate.

Deputy Adrian Gabriel, President of the Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure, said:

"This workplan sets out, plainly and directly, what we intend to deliver over this term, and how this contributes to daily life in Guernsey.

"Some of our work is highly visible; much of it is not. Our teams make sure that our roads are maintained, that there are safe, reliable public transport options, that coastal paths are maintained, essential supplies can be imported and distributed, our economy is supported, and our environment is protected.

"But while our teams contribute to the day-to-day challenges, we also need to plan for the future, managing longer-term risk, including climate change, coastal defence, and security of supply, so that decisions taken now are informed by the pressures Guernsey is likely to face in future.

"Our commitment is to focus on practical delivery and clear priorities, and to explain our work, so that islanders can easily follow progress and rightly hold us to account if it is not evident."
