SAN FRANCISCO - May 27, 2026 - The San Francisco International Airport (SFO) announced that it has set a new record for Memorial Day weekend travel. From Thursday, May 21st through Monday, May 25th, the Airport served almost 798,000 travelers, a 2.6% increase from the previous record set during Memorial Day 2025 and 3.2% higher than Memorial Day 2019 levels. The busiest single day of the holiday weekend was Thursday, May 21st, with over 177,000 travelers going through SFO.
"San Francisco is a city on the rise, and this record-breaking weekend at SFO is another sign of our continued momentum," said Mayor Lurie. "Hundreds of thousands of travelers visited San Francisco this holiday weekend, bringing energy to our hotels, restaurants, neighborhoods, and small businesses. As more people come back to our city, we will continue to strengthen our economic comeback and support the businesses and workers that power our city."
"The summer travel season is an important measurement of Bay Area travel demand, and we are thrilled to kick off this period with record-setting passenger activity," said Airport Director Mike Nakornkhet. "This achievement makes clear that we serve a region where confidence is high, and my thanks go out to our entire Airport team for being well-prepared for these levels of activity."
In total, 16.8 million travelers are expected at SFO between Memorial Day and Labor Day, an increase of approximately 3% over summer 2025 levels.
