McKinney National Airport Approves First Airline Use and Lease Agreement

Avelo Airlines is the First Carrier to Commit to Serving the City of McKinney and North Texas

McKinney National Airport (TKI) has acquired its first airline partner with the City of McKinney's signing of an Airline Use and Lease Agreement (ULA) this week.

Avelo Airlines is the first carrier to sign the ULA and commit to supporting the development and operation of TKI's passenger terminal and adjacent facilities, which are currently under construction.

The five-year ULA, which includes an optional five-year extension, establishes the terms and conditions for Avelo and other prospective airlines, including use of:

  • Runway and taxiways
  • Aircraft parking and maintenance areas
  • Non-exclusive areas such as check-in counters, boarding gates, and flight displays, and
  • Exclusive areas, including designated office and administrative space.

The agreement also sets the rates and charges for a carrier's operation at TKI, to include a per-passenger use fee and aircraft fuel fees.

"We have reached an important milestone at McKinney National Airport by signing the first Airline Use and Lease Agreement," said Mayor Bill Cox. "The airport team has been working diligently to deliver convenient and affordable nonstop airline service to our residents and visitors, and we applaud them for their efforts to serve our community."

"We look forward to working with our airline partners in 2026 and beyond to bring air service to North Texas," Cox continued.

Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO Andrew Levy said, "We are very excited to be the launch airline at TKI. We believe that our everyday low fares, convenient and reliable service, combined with an easy-to-use, small airport, is a combination the residents of McKinney and North Texas will enthusiastically embrace. In addition to providing more choices for residents and visitors to McKinney, we will also create well over 100 jobs in the region when we begin service. As a proud Texas company, we are especially excited to plant our flag at TKI, just a few hours north of our home in Houston."

Avelo is the first carrier to commit to serving McKinney National Airport. The airline will announce a launch date and the nonstop destinations it will serve from TKI a few months prior to the opening of the commercial terminal.

The TKI team looks forward to advancing efforts to secure nonstop flight options and expanding interest in enhanced air service for McKinney and the North Texas community.
