Amazon Leo to power satellite internet for South Africa's largest internet provider
Amazon Leo has entered into an agreement with Herotel, South Africa's largest fixed internet service provider, to launch evry-a satellite internet service expected to debut commercially in 2027. This marks Amazon Leo's first such agreement in Africa. Evry will connect millions of South Africans in rural areas, farms, and small towns where traditional infrastructure remains impractical and costly. Herotel, which serves over 350,000 active customers across more than 550 towns, will leverage its existing local offices for installation and support.
Dave Treadwell to lead AWS Compute and ML Services as Dave Brown departs
After nearly 19 years at AWS, Dave Brown has decided to take a new role outside of the company. Dave Treadwell, current Senior Vice President of eCommerce Foundation, will move over to AWS effective August 1 to lead the AWS Compute and ML Services team going forward. He brings nearly a decade of global experience of running Amazon's entire technology platform, one of the biggest applications in the world, and has deep expertise in running technology at the same scale we do.
