Defence Secretary Attends Chinese New Year Reception in Colombo
The Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), attended the Chinese New Year reception held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo yesterday (9 February) as a special guest.
The event was organised by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Sri Lanka, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Vijitha Herath, participating as the Chief Guest. The Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, H.E. Qi Zhenhong, warmly welcomed the guests.
The ceremony also featured cultural performances and presentations.
A distinguished gathering, including former Presidents, the Speaker, the Leader of the Opposition, Members of Parliament, diplomats, Tri-Forces Commanders, embassy officials and other special invitees, were present at the event.
The reception highlighted the long-standing friendship and strong cooperation between Sri Lanka and China.
