Margaret Sass, a lecturer in the School for the Digital Future, presented for the Living Independence Network Corporation on how artificial intelligence can support accessibility and independent living for individuals with disabilities.
The Living Independence Network Corporation is a community-based, nonprofit organization run by and for people with disabilities, focused on removing barriers and empowering individuals to live independently. The presentation, "Using AI Tools to Support People with Disabilities," highlighted practical, easy-to-use tools that help individuals access information, solve everyday problems and navigate community resources more effectively.
In conjunction with this work, Sass recently completed an Open Educational Resource book titled "AI for Accessibility: A Practical Guide to Supporting Independence and Decision-Making." The book was developed specifically for those living independently and provides simple, step-by-step guidance on using AI to build confidence, make decisions, and increase independence in daily life. It emphasizes that individuals remain in control while using AI as a supportive tool.
