IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 5, 2026 Albuquerque, NM - The New Mexico Supreme Court ruled that Democrats could not fill the vacancies in HD-04 and HD-23 with replacement nominees because the previous candidates withdrew passed the 90-day withdrawal deadline. RPNM releases the following statement: "These are just more examples of how New Mexico Democrats have ZERO regard for the rules," said Interim Chairman Mike Nelson. "This is not a singular issue, either. Democrats across New Mexico are adding to their track record of election interference with this latest stunt. In just the past 12 months, they have manipulated their selection process for their lieutenant governor nominee, tried to remove Rebecca Dow from the ballot despite the fact that she was an incumbent running unopposed, left SD 33 vacant until just days before a consequential legislative session, and now are trying to appoint nominees after the 90-day deadline. If they won't follow basic rules, how can New Mexico voters have any confidence in them to turn our state around on serious, complex issues?" The Republican Party of New Mexico congratulates Rep. Alan Martinez and the next representative for HD-04, Heather Ellison. ### |
