The ILO Country Office for India convened a stakeholder consultation on 6 July 2026 for the project "Promoting Safe Employment Pathways and Fair Recruitment Practices", bringing together representatives from Government of India and relevant institutions to discuss efforts to strengthen safe, orderly, and fair labour mobility and explore opportunities for collaboration.
The opening session featured welcome remarks by Michiko Miyamoto, Director, ILO Country Office for India, who highlighted the importance of coordinated action among government agencies and development partners to promote fair recruitment practices and enhance protections for workers throughout the migration cycle.
The project team, led by Yukari Kanamori, Technical Officer, and Radhika Sunger, National Project Coordinator, then presented the project objectives, proposed activities, and implementation approach.
Representatives from the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the Ministry of External Affairs, the National Council of Vocational Education and Training, and the National Skill Development Corporation shared perspectives on current priorities and ongoing initiatives related to skills development, workforce mobility, and international recruitment.
A central focus of the consultation was aligning the project with Government of India priorities and ensuring that project interventions complement existing government efforts. Particular attention was given to advancing skills recognition and fair recruitment in the India-Canada labour migration corridor. Government representatives provided valuable insights on sectoral and geographic priorities, identified occupations with potential for international mobility, and suggested key stakeholders that could contribute to successful implementation.
The consultation underscored shared priorities and reinforced a constructive path for collaboration between the ILO project and the government partners. The meeting concluded with agreement on the need for sustained engagement throughout the project period, laying a strong foundation for partnership and collective action in support of safe and fair labour migration corridor between India and Canada.
This event was organized under the ILO project "Promoting Safe Employment Pathways and Fair Recruitment Practices", funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
