Special Lecture by Registrar of International Court of Justice

1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a special lecture by Professor Philippe Gautier, Registrar of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), on Wednesday, July 9. The event was attended by approximately 80 participants, including Foreign Ministry officials, scholars of international law, and university and graduate students.

※ International Court of Justice (ICJ) : Established in 1945 as the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, the ICJ settles legal disputes between states in accordance with international law and provides advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by UN bodies and other international organizations. It is located in The Hague, the Netherlands, and comprises 15 judges and a Registry.

2. In this lecture, Registrar Gautier, who also teaches international law at the University of Louvain addressed the topic of "International Court of Justice : new trend and current issues," focusing in particular on recent developments in the Court's jurisprudence, the development of the interpretation of international law, and major legal issues facing the international community. The Q&A session was moderated by Professor Oh Si-jin of Kangwon National University School of Law.

3. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to provide various opportunities for dialogue in order to strengthen Korea's legal capacity on the global stage and raise awareness of international law.
