Landfill to close at 1 p.m., Friday, March 27, due to high winds
Due to high winds, the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center will close at 1 p.m., Friday, March 27, 2026.

Why do we close the landfill on windy or inclement weather days?
High winds and inclement weather can make it very difficult to control and prevent litter when garbage is emptied out of vehicles for disposal in the landfill. The Iowa City Landfill, through solid waste permitting from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, is required to control litter at all times. We appreciate your patience and understanding!
