Congresswoman Bynum Votes Against DHS Funding Bill

Oregon City, OR - Today, Congresswoman Janelle Bynum (OR-05)released the following statement after voting against H.R. 7147, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Appropriations Act of 2026, which includes funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Last summer, Republicans included a $75 billion increase in funding for ICE in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which Congresswoman Bynum voted against.

"We've all seen how Kristi Noem lies and has led ICE to stray from its original mission. Instead of following the Constitution and using best practices in law enforcement, ICE is terrorizing American citizens, demanding citizenship 'papers,' and destroying property families have worked hard for," said Rep. Bynum. "And in response, Republicans gave them an additional $75 billion in funding last summer, which I opposed for the same reasons. ICE needs transparency, accountability, and to follow the law. Full stop. That's why I voted against this bill and the level of funding it gives to ICE. I'll continue calling for Congress to exercise our oversight responsibilities over ICE and demanding accountability for Secretary Noem's leadership."
