Congresswoman Tenney Highlights Legislative Efforts to Back the Blue During National Police Week

Washington, DC - Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) today recognized the heroic service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers across the nation in commemoration of National Police Week and highlighted her ongoing legislative efforts to support police officers, strengthen public safety, and defend the rule of law.

"During National Police Week, we honor the brave men and women in law enforcement who risk their lives every day to protect our communities," said Congresswoman Tenney. "While radical politicians attack police officers and push dangerous anti-law enforcement policies, I will continue to Back the Blue and stand with the officers who protect and serve our communities."

"Law enforcement officers need leaders who support them, not politicians who vilify them and make their jobs harder," Tenney continued. "Across New York and the country, officers face rising violent crime, failed bail policies, growing anti-police hostility, and dangerous sanctuary policies that put criminals ahead of public safety."

"In Congress, I am advancing commonsense legislation that gives law enforcement officers the protections, tools, and support they need to do their jobs safely and effectively," Tenney said. "During National Police Week, we also remember the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and pray for their families, loved ones, and fellow officers. America will never forget their sacrifice."

Congresswoman Tenney has supported and introduced legislation to strengthen protections for law enforcement officers, improve public safety, and combat anti-police policies. Specifically, Tenney introduced and supported legislation in Congress:

Supporting Law Enforcement Officers:

Introduced H.Res. 208, Expressing solidarity with New York State corrections officers striking for better working conditions: This resolution supports corrections officers fighting for safer working conditions amid dangerous policies implemented by New York State Democrats.

H.Con.Res. 30, Expressing support for local law enforcement officers: This resolution recognizes the service, sacrifice, and dedication of local law enforcement officers across the country.

Removing Barriers to Public Safety

Introduced H.R. 198, the SERVE Our Communities Act: This legislation creates a federal grant program for jurisdictions that implement dangerousness standards in bail decisions, support law enforcement hiring and retention, and improve community-police relations.

H.R. 3129, the Police Officers Protecting Children Act: This legislation allows qualified active and retired law enforcement officers to carry firearms in school zones to better protect children and school communities.

Voted to pass H.R. 2243, the LEOSA Reform Act: This legislation expands protections under the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act to allow qualified off-duty and retired officers to carry firearms for the protection of themselves, their families, and their communities. This bill passed the House on May 14, 2025 by a vote of 229-193.

Ensuring Officers Have the Tools and Protections They Need

This bill passed the House on February 12, 2026 by a vote of 233-185.

H.R. 503, the Qualified Immunity Act: This legislation codifies qualified immunity protections for law enforcement officers in federal law and protects officers acting in good faith from politically motivated lawsuits.
