Two Convicted Felons Facing Charges for Firing Guns Inside East Nashville Market Tuesday Afternoon

An exchange of gunfire by two convicted felons Tuesday afternoon inside the Mini Mart store on McFerrin Avenue in East Nashville has led to criminal charges against both men and the likelihood they'll be federally prosecuted.

Specialized Investigations Division TITANS Unit detectives early today arrested Dajuan Pointer, 31, at a parking lot in Bellevue. The second man, William Greer, 32, is being treated for gunshot wounds to his knee and hand. Greer's 31-year-old girlfriend is being treated for a gunshot wound to her buttocks.

The investigation to this point shows that Pointer entered the store wearing a ski mask and approached a man who was checking out at the counter. Pointer pointed a gun at the man, who ran toward the door. Pointer then fired, striking Greer and his girlfriend. Surveillance video showed Greer falling to the ground, pulling his own gun and shooting. Pointer fled the store, tossed his pistol (which had been reported stolen) into a nearby dumpster, and drove away in a Toyota sedan.

Pointer is charged with three counts of aggravated assault, felony reckless endangerment, gun theft, gun possession by a convicted felon, use of a gun in the commission of a dangerous felony, and being a fugitive wanted by U.S. Marshals. Pointer has prior federal convictions for gun crimes.

A state arrest warrant charging Greer with unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon has been issued. Greer is on supervised federal release for gun crimes.
