MONCKS CORNER, S.C. - Santee Cooper is planning a nighttime repair for a large water line serving people in Goose Creek, Summerville and portions of Berkeley County.

The repair process is expected to begin around 6 p.m. and take six hours or more to complete. Goose Creek, Summerville and Berkeley County water agencies have issued boil water advisories that will likely remain in place for at least 24 hours after the repair is complete.

The damage occurred on a section of the Lake Moultrie Regional Water System's main line near Moncks Corner. The Lake Moultrie Regional Water System serves water agencies operated by the City of Goose Creek, the Summerville Commissioners of Public Works, and portions of Berkeley County.

The line was damaged yesterday by a contractor who was not working for Santee Cooper. Crews completed a temporary repair very early this morning. Tonight's repair is expected to include dewatering the pipe, cutting out the damaged section and replacing it.

"Santee Cooper decided to pause the repair process early this morning to allow the system time to refill storage tanks maintained by these water agencies," said Deputy CEO and Chief Operating Officer Mike Finissi. "Those refilled tanks are now available to support the agencies' customer needs tonight while we replace the affected section of pipe. We would continue to ask customers to conserve water when possible until this repair is complete."

Santee Cooper has been supported throughout this process by crews from Goose Creek, Summerville and Berkeley County, and they are continuing to support this effort. Chandler Construction has also been retained for the repair project.
