On 29 November, Consul General Chen Shijie attended and addressed the opening ceremony of the 6th Xiangshang New Zealand National Kungfu Wushu Championships. New Zealand Members of Parliament Carlos Zhang and Nancy Lu, President of the New Zealand Kungfu Wushu Federation Glen Keith, President of the Hunan General Chamber of Commerce Zhou Huibin, and hundreds of athletes and spectators participated in the event.
Consul General Chen stated that the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee reviewed and adopted the "15th Five-Year Plan" proposal, which put forward the deepening of cultural exchanges and mutual learning, and the extensive development of international cultural exchanges and cooperation. During China's top legislator Zhao Leji's recent visit to New Zealand, the leaders of the two countries reached a consensus on promoting cultural exchanges and achieving more results in bilateral cultural cooperation. He expressed hope that more Kiwi friends would learn Wushu, make friends through Wushu, and experience China. The Consulate-General is willing to work with friends from all walks of life in the consular district to jointly promote exchanges and cooperation in various fields.
The Xiangshang New Zealand National Kungfu Wushu Championships, hosted by the New Zealand Kungfu Wushu Federation and the New Zealand Hunan General Chamber of Commerce, includes categories such as Wushu routines, Tai Chi, and Sanda (Chinese kickboxing).
