The DNC congratulates Christina Bohannan on tonight's victory in the Democratic primary for Iowa's 1st Congressional District - a critical race that will help flip the House of Representatives in November. Democratic voters throughout Iowa turned out to back candidates like Bohannan who are focused on lowering costs, protecting healthcare, fighting for rural communities, and delivering for working families. Tonight's victory follows Bohannan's overperformance in 2024 in which she organized across the district and came less than 800 votes away from flipping it.
In response to Christina Bohannan's victory, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:
"Christina Bohannan is a proven champion for Southeast Iowa who understands what families are facing and brings popular, commonsense solutions to the table. While Mariannette Miller-Meeks caters to extremists and special interests, Christina will work with anyone, anywhere, anytime to lower costs and protect healthcare. She will fight for rural communities, put Iowans first, and get things done. In 2024, she showed up in every part of her district, organized on the ground, and came within 800 votes of winning this seat. In 2026, the DNC is ready to help Christina flip it from red to blue, take back the House, and deliver for Iowa families."
