Warning about fraudulent calls being made in the name of ANACOM

ANACOM wishes to warn of fraudulent telephone calls being made in the name of this Authority. Between 6 and 7 April 2026, several individuals contacted ANACOM to report receiving spoofed calls, i.e. calls where the originating number had been falsified to make it appear as though the call was being made from ANACOM's customer service number (800 206 665).

In the reported cases, the callers have falsely claimed to be ANACOM staff. They have referred to alleged illegal activities (such as sending fraudulent messages or mobile phone theft) and have mentioned communications supposedly from the Portuguese Criminal Investigation Police (Polícia Judiciária). They have also threatened to block numbers or services.

The calls follow a similar pattern. The caller provides some correct personal details alongside a fictitious name or identification number. Pressure is then put on the recipient in an attempt to obtain more personal information.

ANACOM is not making any such contact. Any information provided during these calls is false.

ANACOM recommends that you:

  • do not answer or return calls from the number 800 206 665;
  • do not provide or confirm any personal details;
  • try to verify the identity of any caller (name, company and department);
  • ask the caller to contact you at a later time so that you can carry out this verification.

ANACOM neither requests personal data over the telephone nor shares such data with other bodies, including law enforcement agencies.

If you suspect that you are the victim of fraud or deception, you should contact the relevant security authorities. If you are a victim of such practices, we recommend filing a complaint with Polícia de Segurança Pública (the Public Security Police) or Guarda Nacional Republicana (the National Republican Guard) in your area of residence. Alternatively, you can contact Ministério Público (the Public Prosecutor's Office) or Departamento de Investigação e Ação Penal (DIAP - the Department of Investigation and Penal Action) at the local court.
