Mayor Bowser and Department of Public Works to Kick Off Leaf Collection Season

(Washington, DC) - Today, Thursday, October 23 at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will join the DC Department of Public Works (DPW) to kick off the 2025-2026 Leaf Collection Season, which begins Monday, November 3 and continues through February 2026. At the event, Mayor Bowser and DPW officials will share what residents can expect during the leaf collection season, offer tips on composting food scraps, pumpkins, and holiday gourds, and highlight other initiatives to keep DC clean, safe, and beautiful throughout the fall and winter.

Leaf collection will begin in Section A on Monday, November 3. Each residential neighborhood will receive at least two leaf collections during the season. Residents are asked to rake leaves to the curb or tree box in front of their homes the weekend before their scheduled collection week. Residents can learn more at dpw.dc.gov/leaf.
