Recovery Resources and Next Steps
The City's Emergency Management team is working with the National Weather Service and the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management to assess the tornado's impact, including damage to public spaces and private properties. The American Red Cross is visiting affected homes to connect residents with assistance.
Residents are encouraged to take the following steps:
Document all damage: Take photographs and videos of damaged property, debris and losses, and note each location before cleanup begins.
Contact your insurance provider: Private insurance will be the primary recovery resource for many homeowners and families with property damage.
Seek assistance: Call 211 to connect with available community resources and support services.
Use neighborhood cleanup resources: The City has coordinated dumpster availability in the affected neighborhood and is working to make additional resources available.
The City is also coordinating a process for community members interested in volunteering to assist with cleanup and recovery. Details on how to volunteer will be announced as coordination efforts continue.
In addition to the tornado response, Fire and Police personnel responded to multiple vehicle crashes, conducted swiftwater rescues within city limits and provided mutual aid to Santa Fe County.
With additional rain forecast and the possibility of further severe weather, residents should remain alert, monitor official emergency alerts and follow directions from emergency responders. Call 911 for emergencies.
The City thanks emergency personnel, volunteers, partner agencies and community members for their swift response and continued support
