On June 6, 2026, at about 12:16 p.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received multiple 9-1-1 calls regarding a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle on northbound I-25 and near Circle Drive. When officers arrived, citizens were providing medical assistance to the motorcycle driver, who had been thrown off his motorcycle and down the embankment just east of Interstate 25.
The motorcycle driver was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle involved was not injured. The Major Crash Team was notified and responded to lead the investigation. The motorcycle driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The crash remains under investigation.
On June 30, 2026, CSPD was notified by the El Paso County Coroner's Office that the driver of the motorcycle had passed away while under hospice care. The driver was identified as 62-year-old David Joseph.
This incident marks the 30th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2026. At this time last year, the city experienced 23 traffic fatalities. Over the past 365 days, there have been 60 traffic-related fatalities within the city.
