Live-Virtual Design Public Hearing: July 30, 2025, 6:00 PM
Bridge Replacement, South Street East Over Taunton River, Raynham-Taunton, MA
What is happening?
The purpose of this hearing is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed project. All views and comments submitted in response to the hearing will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.
How will this affect you?
The proposed project consists of replacing the bridge deck, increasing safety, and improving operations of the roadway. The proposed design relocates the existing bridge sidewalk from the east to the west side of the bridge to connect to an existing sidewalk on the southwest approach. A 5-foot shoulder for a bike lane in the northbound direction improves safety by providing dedicated space for cyclists, separating them from vehicular traffic. This separation reduces the risk of conflicts between cyclists and vehicles. The construction plan for the replacement of the bridge calls for full closure of the bridge to allow for the complete replacement of the structure. This will necessitate restricting all traffic on Old Colony Avenue and the establishment of a 6.5-mile detour route during construction.
