Passing of Judge John T. Dorsey

It is with deep sadness that the Court announces the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Judge John T. Dorsey, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Judge Dorsey joined the Court in 2019 after a distinguished career in private practice. He led the Court as Chief Judge from 2024-2025. Judge Dorsey's life was characterized by service: he served in the United States Army after high school and was a missile officer in the United States Air Force after attending college on the G.I. Bill. He also served as Delaware state director for then-Senator Joseph R. Biden, and was a candidate for Attorney General of Delaware in 1998. Immediately prior to joining the bench, Judge Dorsey was a partner and General Counsel with Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor in Wilmington.

Judge Dorsey is survived by his beloved wife Sylvia, son Benjamin, daughter Christina (Ryan), and granddaughter Nora. The Court extends its deepest sympathies to them in this difficult time. Details regarding funeral arrangements will be shared when they become available.
