Emmer Meets with MSP Airport Air Traffic Control

ST. PAUL, MN - Today, Congressman Emmer toured the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) Control Tower and Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) facility.

U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has made a commitment to modernize the nation's air traffic control system, which Congress has made possible by providing $12.5 billion in the Working Families Tax Cut Act. Congressman Emmer was able to see firsthand where these investments will be going.

"MSP is the region's most important airport, and it was great to meet with the men and women of MSP Air Traffic Control," said Congressman Emmer."Thanks to our historic Working Families Tax Cut Act, MSP can modernize, address gaps, and keep flyers safe. We look forward to continuing our work with the Trump administration to support our air traffic controllers."

Background

The U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has made it a priority to modernize the nation's air traffic control system in order to enhance the safety and efficiency of our skies. In 2023, the Federal Aviation Administration found that more than a third of the nation's air traffic control systems are unsustainable.

These critical updates include replacing outdated radar systems, telecommunication devices, and traffic tower controls, which can date as far back as the 1960s. Through the Working Families Tax Cut Act, Congressman Emmer has supported Secretary Duffy's initiative by including $12.5 billion in funding to support airport modernization efforts.

MSP is the 17th busiest airport for passengers and 21st busiest for aircraft operations in the United States, with the airport being Delta Air Lines' second largest hub and the home of Sun Country Airlines. Additionally, MSP is a major employer in Minnesota, supporting or facilitating the employment of 93,350 individuals and contributing $21.3 billion to Minnesota's economy.
