Hoyer Statement on Suspicious Letter Received at District Office

GREENBELT, MD - Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement after a potentially hazardous letter was received at his district office in Greenbelt, Maryland:

"Today, my district office in Greenbelt, Maryland, received a suspicious letter similar to those received by public officials across the country. The office has been evacuated, and, thankfully, my district staff are safe. I thank our law enforcement partners for their swift and diligent response, and I will continue to monitor this situation as it develops and remain vigilant for other possible threats.

"My district office staff work hard every day to deliver critical services to Marylanders across the Fifth Congressional District. It is unacceptable that their lives were put in danger. Intimidation efforts such as these are un-American and pose an existential threat to our democracy. We must not - and will not - allow them to prevent us from fulfilling our commitment to serving our communities."
