Chief Justice Stuart Rabner has named Andrea Johnson director of Professional and Governmental Services for the Judiciary, effective April 18.
In her new role, Johnson will serve as the Judiciary's representative to the governor's office and the Legislature and will coordinate judicial appointments and reappointments for the court.
"Andrea Johnson is an astute, experienced professional who is well prepared to lead the Office of Professional and Governmental Services," Chief Justice Rabner said.
For the past six years, Johnson served as legislative liaison in the Office of Professional and Governmental Services, where she was the Judiciary's advisor on compliance, legislative risk, and regulatory exposure arising from statutory and policy changes that affect court operations.
She joined the Judiciary in 2014 as a staff attorney in the Supreme Court Office of the Clerk.
Prior to joining the Judiciary, Johnson was an assistant district attorney in the appeals unit of the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office for nearly nine years.
"I am grateful for the confidence the chief justice and the administrative director have placed in me and for the opportunity to serve the Judiciary. I am also thankful to my predecessor and mentor, Deirdre Naughton, for her guidance and leadership. I remain mindful of those who have shaped my path - especially my grandmother, Vernell Wright, whose values and strength continue to inspire me. I hope that I have made her proud," Johnson said.
A graduate of Tufts University, Johnson earned her law degree from Howard University School of Law.
