Honorary degree to be awarded at DSU’s spring commencement

Dakota State University will host their spring commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 10.

During the ceremony, commencement speaker, former South Dakota Governor and current Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, will be presented with an honorary degree of public service.

A time-honored tradition, universities have awarded honorary degrees to recognize individuals for their contributions to a specific field or impact on the institution. While governor, Secretary Noem was a strong and committed champion for Dakota State programs and initiatives, consistently showcasing the incredible outcomes of the university at the national level. Because of her efforts, DSU can better serve its stakeholders, the citizens of South Dakota, and individuals across the nation.

Commencement is scheduled for Saturday, May 10, at 10:30 a.m. at the DSU Fieldhouse. A hooding ceremony for graduate students will take place at 8:30 a.m. in the Dakota Prairie Playhouse before the commencement ceremony.

Tickets are required for seating in the Fieldhouse; overflow seating will be available in the Dakota Prairie Playhouse, and no tickets are required for this venue. For those unable to attend in person, the hooding and commencement ceremonies will be live-streamed. These links and more information are available on the DSU website, dsu.edu.

Dakota State University and the South Dakota Board of Regents have policies and procedures for granting honorary degrees; degrees will be presented, ensuring the requirements have been met.
