Annual Compassionate City Awards To Be Presented June 11
Event Scheduled for 10 A.M. Thursday, June 11, In Las Vegas City Hall Council Chambers
The city of Las Vegas, in partnership with Compassionate Las Vegas, invites everyone to attend the annual Compassionate City Awards at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 11, in Las Vegas City Hall Council Chambers, 495 S. Main St.
Compassionate Las Vegas is a community network created to build a movement of compassion in the Las Vegas area. Community members were invited to nominate individuals exemplifying compassion within our community in the following categories: Health & Wellness, Education, Housing Security, Human Trafficking Prevention, Strengthening the Family, Environmental Sustainability and Climate Resilience, and Restorative Practices. In addition, a new youth category was introduced this year: The Shining Light Youth Award. Nominations were due by April 9, 2026. The winners were selected by a community review board.
The 2026 winners include:

Environmental Sustainability and Climate Resilience - Alan O'Neill is a nationally recognized conservation leader whose 60-year career has advanced public lands, outdoor access and environmental stewardship through the National Park Service, Get Outdoors Nevada, and numerous conservation organizations.

Education - Kevin Wright is an award-winning educator, best-selling author, and nationally recognized speaker specializing in culturally responsive leadership, personal and professional transformation, and social justice education.

Health & Wellness - Georgene "Gina" Glass, founder of Dreamsickle Kids Foundation, has transformed the landscape of sickle cell disease support, advocacy and awareness in Nevada through both systems-level change and direct community impact.

Housing Security - David Raanan, a Las Vegas real estate investor, broker and developer, is dedicated to affordable housing and community development in the Las Vegas area.

Strengthening the Family - Julia Lazareck, president of Prison Families Alliance, advocates for families impacted by incarceration.

The Shining Light Youth Award - Skai Jones, a high school junior, is co-founder of the Youth for Youth Holiday Concert that has donated more than $150,000 to local organizations serving at-risk youth.
