Representative La Ha’s Latest: What Are we Expecting During Veto Session

Representative La Ha's Latest: What Are we Expecting During Veto Session?

October 9, 2025

Veto Session is NEXT WEEK!

Here's what we're expecting in Springfield:

• Budget Concerns: Democrats may take up measures to address potential shortfalls in the state budget. Since taking office, Governor Pritzker has increased state spending by roughly 40% and signed the largest budget in Illinois history ($55.2 billion) in July.

• New Democratic Proposals: There's talk of proposals to mandate voting for all eligible voters and to change when and how local elections are conducted across the state. Democrats are also floating a proposal to create a new service tax that would add taxes to more than 80 everyday services such as haircuts, vehicle repairs, dry cleaning, and so much more.

• What SHOULD be discussed (but most likely wont be):

-Meaningful tax relief for families and small businesses

-An end to the state's failed sanctuary policies

-Reforming the broken SAFE-T Act to restore public safety

-Ethics reform to finally tackle the decades of corruption in state government

Illinois families deserve better. I'll continue fighting for what matters to you!

Small Business of the Month

I'm proud to highlight Spring Forest Deli and Catering in Willow Springs as our October Small Business of the Month!

For over 40 years, the Weeg family has served up fresh, home-style meals with care and consistency. Michael and Mary Ellen Weeg have continued the tradition since 2000, building on the foundation laid by Michael's parents. Their deli and catering service is known for quality food, professional service, and a personal touch that keeps customers coming back.

Thank you to the Weeg family for your continued commitment to excellence!

DuPage County Property Tax Panel

The number one concern among District 82 residents is the rising cost of property taxes. I was honored to join the DuPage County Property Tax Panel at the Hinsdale Library alongside local leaders and residents who care deeply about making our tax system more transparent and fair.

We tackled tough questions about rising property tax bills, unfunded mandates from Springfield, and the red tape that's burdening our communities. A big thank you to Americans for Prosperity, the Hinsdale Library, and all the residents who showed up ready to learn, share, and advocate for change.

Your voices matter and I'll keep fighting to make sure they're heard!

Aspire Academy South Tour

It was a pleasure to join Senator John Curran for a visit to Aspire Academy South last week.

We had the opportunity to tour the Employment Training Program, speak with a participant about his path to employment, and engage in thoughtful conversations around voting and advocacy.

I'm grateful for the chance to see this work firsthand and to support efforts that expand opportunity and elevate the voices of those often left out of the conversation.
