Lovell WY - Fire crews took advantage of a delay in predicted winds yesterday allowing for continued strong progress on the Kane Fire. Containment has increased to 50 percent and total acreage has been confirmed at 1915 acres.
Current Operations/Objectives
Over the next several days, firefighting operations will begin transitioning into a downsizing phase of resources. Remaining resources will focus on patrolling, monitoring, and mopping up within the fire perimeter, while continuing to reinforce and secure containment lines.Fire Weather Outlook
Cooler temperatures are predicted for today but humidity remains low and crews are planning for another day with breezy conditions, gusts up to 32 mph. Tomorrow will remain cool and breezy, followed by warming temperatures and lighter winds over the weekend.Closures and Public Safety
All roads within the Yellowtail Wildlife Habitat Management Area remain temporarily closed. The public is asked to respect these closures to ensure firefighter and public safety and to allow crews to operate effectively.Smoke Information

Updates on the Kane Fire will be posted on the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area social media channels and website as new information becomes available.The Yellowtail Wildlife Habitat Management Area is located approximately six miles east of Lovell and encompasses 19,288 acres. Established in the early 1960s, the area supports waterfowl habitat through a cooperative agreement between the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission, National Park Service, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, and Bureau of Land Management.
