Outstanding coordination between Violent Crimes Division and Auto Theft Unit detectives as well as the MNPD Aviation Unit led to last night's arrest of two men driving two stolen Jeeps with a stolen handgun, marijuana, stolen credit cards and other items from recent vehicle burglaries.
Detectives first located a stolen white 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee, taken from Hallbrook Court early Tuesday morning unlocked with the keys inside, as it picked up the driver of a stolen black 2018 Jeep Compass on Fenway Loop. The Compass had a fake temporary tag.
The driver of the Compass, Keyvon West, 18, then entered the passenger seat of the Cherokee and they continued to Hickory Club Drive where he and the driver of the Cherokee, Nicholas Dalton, 20, fled on foot. Both were quickly apprehended in the breezeway of an apartment building on Bell Road.
West dropped a black backpack as he was being taken into custody which contained a stolen handgun as well as a variety of stolen debit and credit cards. The loaded Canik 9mm handgun was stolen on Tuesday during a vehicle burglary.
During an interview with detectives, West admitted to knowing both Jeeps were stolen. Inside the Compass, which West was seen driving, marijuana and Dalton's suspended license were recovered.
Dalton, who was familiar to detectives from a January 2024 arrest while in a stolen Dodge Durango, is now charged with two counts of motor vehicle theft and one count of evading arrest, marijuana possession and driving on a suspended license. He remains jailed today in lieu of $63,000 bond.
West was charged with motor vehicle burglary, not having a driver's license, evading arrest, altering a vehicle tag, marijuana possession, dangerous felony weapon possession, theft of a firearm, two counts of motor vehicle theft and two counts of credit card fraud. He remains jailed today in lieu of $93,500 bond.
The two remain under investigation for scores of vehicle burglaries within and outside of Davidson County.
