Nebraska Street (5th Street to 8th Street) Water Main Replacement Project

The City of Sioux City announces the upcoming start of the Nebraska Street Water Main Replacement Project, spanning 5th Street to 8th Street. Construction is scheduled to start on or about July 13, 2026, and will be completed in multiple stages throughout 2026 and 2027. The scope of this project will include the replacement of water main along Nebraska Street between 5th and 8th Streets, as well as limited storm sewer and sanitary improvements. The intersections of 6th and 7th Street will be reconstructed with bump-outs to include decorative concrete, landscaping, and the addition of trees along Nebraska Street. Additional enhancements include the installation of new light poles on Nebraska Street near 5th Street and overhead wires will be moved underground. New traffic signal pedestrian poles and push-buttons will be added at the intersection of 6th and Nebraska Street.

Stages 1-3 are expected to take place from mid-July to December of 2026. Year 2026 project limits will include the eastern side of Nebraska Street from 5th Street to 8th Street.

Stages 4-5 are expected to begin in April 2027 with project completion in the fall of 2027. Year 2027 project limits will include the intersections of 6th Street and 7th Street with Nebraska Street.

Traffic lanes will be reduced during construction; however, there will always be a minimum of one lane open on all impacted streets. Sidewalks will remain open to pedestrians and be fenced off from construction for safety. On-street parking will not be allowed within the active construction stages limits.
