Welcome to the second edition of the City of Pomona's Art in Public Places Program's monthly newsletter. We heard your call for a centralized source of local happenings and resources, so we'll be publishing a newsletter on the first Thursday of every month, please share!

️Art in Public Places Updates

1. Update on Public Artwork Depicting Cesar Chavez

Cultural Arts Commission and City Council approved 3 Staff recommendations in regard to public artwork depicting Cesar Chavez:

  1. Working with the original artists to alter their respective works.
  2. Facilitating community listening sessions on desired policy regarding future alterations and/or deaccessions.
  3. Establishing an advisory committee for the review of said policies.

2. Join our Artist and Arts Organization Registry!

The Registry forms below are meant to collect the data of artists and organizations in the local area across all mediums as a resource to connect artists and the community. We will allow profile submissions from all artists and organizations located in Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties.

Please respond to all questions, as a Pre-Qualified list of artists/organizations will be created from this Registry to share with the Public.

3. How Can You Support Our Public Art Collection

Visit our Public Art Collection! We are continuously updating our registry for users to engage with and record our art collection.

The City's art collection requires ongoing preservation efforts, and we are continuously working to implement the most sustainable, effective, and efficient care strategies. We sincerely appreciate the staff and residents who have reported instances of vandalism or deterioration in our public artworks-your efforts help us ensure the longevity and integrity of the collection.

If you notice issues with public art, please don't hesitate to use the Pomona Go app! This all-in-one app allows you to easily report a variety of City-related concerns, including those about public art. You can access PomonaGO here.

4. Public Art Preservation: Local Artist Interest Form

We are looking for local artists interested in helping us maintain the City's public art collection by providing graffiti removal and preservation services (color matching, touch ups, etc.)! If you are interested, fill out this contact form and we will be in touch.

5. Cultural Arts Commission Meetings

Cultural Arts Commission meetings are held every fourth Monday at Council Chambers (505 S Garey Ave.) and are always open to the public. The commission meeting calendar can be found here.

1. PAiD Professional Development Workshop for Artists

Free online workshop series designed to build skills and advance artist careers in public art offered by LA County Arts & Culture's Public Artists in Development Program!

This series of workshops is designed to demystify the barriers of entry to public art and provide artists with the tools and confidence needed to advance their careers in public art. Each workshop will feature a unique topic balancing practical knowledge of public art commissioning to field-wide discourse around the role and purpose of public art.

If you are interested in participating in the Lopez Urban Art Fest on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 2-6 PM, fill out the following form before May 8th: Vendor Application Form

2. Artist Call: West Valley Connector Bus Rapid Transit Project - Utility Box


SBCTA (San Bernardino County Transit Authority) is issuing this RFQ (Request for Qualifications) for the design of wraps to be placed on utility boxes that are located at stations along the West Valley Connector project alignment. This new dedicated bus line connects Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties. Operated by Omnitrans, the route will travel through the cities of Pomona, Montclair, Ontario and Rancho Cucamonga. This artist call is meant specifically for artists who reside within the service area of Omnitrans which includes Riverside County as well as Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties. The call is issued for visual artists as well as poets, photographers and other creatives who can develop an artwork spread across a series of utility boxes located near platforms. This is a design project, and the final design fee is $5,000 for a final design which may be used more than once along the alignment.

The call is open now, was live on March 13th and the deadline is May 13th, 2026, at Noon! Artists may apply at the following link, free of charge though the CAFÉ website.Direct

3. Call for Muralists - City of Covina

Paid commission to design and install a large-scale mural celebrating Covina's local history, culture, and community. Opportunity to be added to a City Pre-Approved List!

4. Juried Call for Entries for Ah, Color! Catalogue - Sasse Museum of Art

The Sasse Museum of Art is inviting artists worldwide to submit work for Ah, Color!, a catalog celebrating color as a primary artistic language. Categories include painting, collage & mixed media, photography, digital art, drawing, pastel & printmaking, and fiber. Opens May 7th on CaFÉ.

5. LA County Arts & Culture Arts Internship Program (For College Students)

6. Artist As Catalyst LA 2026 Application

Artist as Catalyst (AAC) is a three-day immersive experience designed to equip young storytellers, artists, and cultural catalysts (ages 18-30) with the tools, opportunity, and community to use their craft in the service of peace-building.

This program is fully funded for all accepted participants and is open to Los Angeles-based artists & cultural leaders, ages 18-30.

8. Diversity Apprenticeship Program - Paid Art Handling & Preparations Apprenticeship

The DAP provides nine-month, full-time paid apprenticeships in art handling and preparations to create career opportunities for people from underrepresented communities in the museum field broadly and art handling and preparations world specifically. By underrepresented, we mean people who identify as Black, Indigenous, and people of color; women; immigrants; LGBTQIA+; people who are formerly incarcerated or systems-impacted; and foster youth. The DAP also provides pathways for those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, particularly those without access to higher education or traditional career opportunities. While the apprenticeship prioritizes individuals from underrepresented backgrounds, it is open to anyone with a strong interest in the field.

Some of the basic skills required to participate as an apprentice include:

  • Good hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and spatial reasoning
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and focused
  • Ability to follow instructions and plan ahead
  • Basic math skills
  • Work well with supervisors and coworkers
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including bending, kneeling, pulling, pushing, walking, standing for long periods of time, and lifting 50 pounds
  • We do not require previous preparator or art handler experience. Instead, we encourage those with a wide variety of experiences to apply.
